Introducing Flow, at the heart of every VR scenario

Making choices and decisions are a part of life. Simply put, the way life unfolds, with its twists and turns, starts and stops, requires us to make choices and decisions every step of the way. — Abigail Brenner

Every choice, every decision we make will produce knowledge. Knowledge about the effects of that choice in a specific situation, knowledge about the stakeholders, knowledge about yourself.

Often when we educate people, we teach them the choices they should make. We teach them the right protocol, the way they should be acting. But isn’t for more interesting to teach the consequences of the other choice. Research tells us we learn by making mistakes.

We call this ‘Learning by experience’.

Build tree-like structures called scenarios

Use Flow in Warp Studio to let trainees experience how making choices effect certain situations. Build your own scenario with multiple scenes. Every scenario has one startpoint, but can have multiple endpoints. Each scene can connect to one or more other scenes.

A scenario consists of many scenes. Each scene can connect to one or more scenes.

Use different types of scenes

Build up your scenario by using any of these different types of scenes:

  • Multiple choice — Create a scene with one question and multiple answers.
  • Direction scene — Create a scene with arrows for people to go to.
  • Information scene — Create a scene with information for the trainee.
  • Hotspot scene — Create a scene with different hotspots that mark different areas in a 360˚ videos.
  • Auto transition scene — Create a scene with no interaction elements.

How to add scenes?

There are two ways of adding scenes to your scenario. One is by double-clicking anywhere in the canvas. The other is by connecting an answer from another scene and releasing on the canvas.

Drag an answer from a scene and release on the canvas to create a new scene.

Once scenes are added to the canvas, click on them to turn and view the question and answers.

Endings

Next to scenes, endings are the most important elements of a scenario. Endings mark the end of a scenario and is the moment in the VR training that trainees will see feedback. Feedback is always given in the form of stars (1 to 5) accompanied by a small note.

Adding endings to a scenario is done the exact same way as adding scenes.

Points

In order for trainees to score 1 to 5 stars it should be possible to assign points to answers. Give a score of 0, 1 or 2 points for each individual answer. Since a total of 0 points is the best possible score (and therefore equals 5 stars), the more points you get, the lower you score. Set the score for an answer to 0 points (grey line, default) when the answer is correct. Set the score to 1 (yellow line) or 2 points (red line) if the answer is wrong or even very wrong.

Set the score for this answer to 2 points, which results in a red line.
